Luang Namtha (literally 'royal sugar palm' or 'royal green river') is a province of Laos in the country's north. The province borders Yunnan, China to the north, Oudomxai province to the east and southeast, Bokeo province to the southwest, and Shan State, Myanmar to the northwest. The province contains the Nam Ha National Biodiversity Conservation Area and is one of the main sugar cane and rubber producing areas of Laos with numerous plantations. Luang Namtha is most famous for trekking and outdoor adventure. However, there are many sights that can be enjoyed at a less strenuous pace, and interesting ethnic diversity. The Luang Namtha Valley Route covers many sights, take a bike or motorbike and enjoy a half or full day guiding yourself around the Valley.

You can either take a car or mini-bus from Luang Prabang to Luang Namtha which will be around 8 hours journey. Alternative you take a 1.5hr train journey from Luang Prabang to Natueuy, where you will need to transfer to taxis for around 35 km to Luang Namtha.
