One of the best things to do in Luang Prabang is to relax and soak up the scenery of the historic Old Town. After a long day of travel or sightseeing, the most enjoyable way to relax each evening was to wander the streets and find somewhere to have a drink with a view. Luang Prabang's Old Quarter, which is nestled on a small peninsula surrounded by the Nam Khan and Mekong River on three sides, having less traffic and is quiet, is a lovely area for an evening stroll. Strolling the Old Quarter streets, you can admire the mix of Buddhist and French Colonial architecture.

Take A Temple Tour

Exploring all of the different Wats is one of the best things to do in Luang Prabang. They are all decorated so beautifully and inspire such a feeling of zen as soon as you enter. Luang Prabang was also the place where you can have the most interactions with monks, and we really enjoyed it every time. The monks living at the wats are so friendly and happy that you're there exploring their home. They smile and wave at you and invite you to explore and take photos. There are over 20 temples within walking distance around the city centre, plus many smaller shrines. Two of the most significant temples to visit are Wat Xieng Thong and Wat Wisunalat.

Climb Mount Phousi For A View

Mount Phousi(Phou Si Hill) is a 100-metre-high hill in the centreof Luang Prabang. From its summit there's an incredible view over the city, the Mekong River, and the Nam Khan. The views are simply breathtaking, especially at sunrise and sunset, and it's the deal spot to take photos of the city and its surroundings. To get to the top of Mount Phousi you will need to climb about 300 stairs, but it is well worth the strain. Along the way, there are small Buddhist temples and statues; the name of the mountain means 'sacred hill' in Lao language and it's a pilgrimage site for Buddhists

Cool Off In The Magnificent Kuang Si Falls

Kuang Si Falls is a must-visit when you are in Luang Prabang. It is a three-tiered waterfall about 29 kilometers south of Luang Prabang. The waterfalls are a favorite side trip for tourists in Luang Prabang and begin in shallow pools atop a steep hillside. These lead to the main fall with a drop of 60 meters. They are accessed via a trail to a left of the falls. The water flows into a turquoise blue pool before continuing downstream. The many cascades of Kuang Si are not typical of waterfalls, adding to the ttractiveness. In the dry season the water at Kuang Si takes on a bluish hue, owing to the presence of minerals like copper. In the wet season the water is a deep green and you can hear the sound of the falls well before you can see them.

Pop Into The Pak Ou Caves

Near Pak Ou (mouth of the Ou river) the ThamTing (lower cave) and the ThamTheung(upper cave) are caves overlooking the Mekong River, 25 km to the north of Luang Prabang, Laos. They are a group of two caves on the west side of the Mekong river, about two hours pstream from the centreof Luang Prabang, and are frequently visited by tourists. The caves are noted for their miniature Buddha sculptures. According to Lao history, the royalties and folks worship the river spirit in Pak Ou Caves. They left behind Buddhist statues every year after the pilgrimage. With each passing year, the number of statues left behind grew, eventually settling in the thousands!

Luang Prabang night market, situated in the most popular part of Luang Prabang, is one not to be missed when visiting this charming city. The night market is one of the biggest tourist markets in Southeast Asia. It offers the most extensive collection of handicrafts in the country. With around 250 handicraft vendors who sell their hand-made products nightly, the market showcases an extensive variety of handicrafts made by local ethnic groups. Food and drinks are also available.
